lemon rose

here is another early attempt at crochet jewelry

the variegated green and brown thread was originally embroidery on a knitted top, which was unpicked and wound into balls

the rose is done in a pale lemon yellow

simple chain ties are embellished with square wooden beads

leaves + hardware

this is one of my early experiments in making crochet jewelry – a bracelet with leaves, and embellishments from the hardware section of our supermarket

a family member modelled it for me

i used a pewter coloured crochet cotton which I love

i also made a little envelope for it

river 2

this is the finished river community project

i love the way each section was individually made by different people, yet it all comes together so beautifully

being in australia, some parts of the river are in drought

river 1

i made this sample for a community installation workshop i taught in queensland, called river

this first step was to stitch white-on-white on shaped pieces of cotton wadding using scraps of lace, torn fabric, buttons, embroidery and (in my case at least) crochet –

the next step was to dye it in 3 different colours using the microwave –

i chose blue, purple and green for my sample

jumpers and jazz

every year there’s a wonderful festival in warwick in queensland, organised by warwick art gallery and other organisations in the area

here’s a mixed media entry in the tree jumpers textile art competition from 2010; it includes crochet –

they have 10 days of tree art (‘jumpers’) and jazz

this one was a winner in the same year (one of my favourites) –

one year they also yarnbombed a car –

the next year they yarnbombed the town hall –

[we try to go each year, but sadly had to miss it this time … it’s on until 29 July so you can still catch it if you’re quick]
